This Week in the Lab - December 3-7

Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade - Students will practice "pair programming" as "driver" and "navigator" to complete challenges on Code.org.

5th Grade - Students will learn about their "digital footprint" and create one of their own.

4th Grade Programming Project - Students will learn and use various programming languages such as Logo and Scratch to explore computer science.
Kindergarten - Students will practice mouse skills while completing challenges in Crayon Physics.
1st Grade - Students will work in partners on Crayon Physics to practice "driver" and "navigator".

Kindergarten - Students will continue working on Course A on code.org.
1st & 2nd Grade - Students will practice pair programming as they work together through their assigned course on code.org.

Kindergarten - Students will build a maze and then attempt to drive Sphero through it.
1st/2nd Grade - Students will complete programming activities in code.org.
3rd Grade - Students will test and improve their typing speed.
4th Grade - Students will program a new Google "Doodle" logo using Scratch.

Kindergarten - Students will continue to practice mouse skills through various activities and websites.

1st Grade - Students will learn how to highlight text and change fonts in Microsoft Word while playing "Find the Font".
2nd Grade - Students will use Tux Paint to create art while painting one box at a time.
3rd Grade - Students will create a personal slides in a collaborate Google Slides presentation.

6th Grade MinecraftEdu First Civilizations - Day 3

This Week in the Lab - October 29-November 2

6th Grade - Students will begin "First Civilizations" using MinecraftEdu.  Each class will work in various jobs that contribute to the community.  The goal begins with survival but eventually moves to sustainability.

Kindergarten - Students will complete various fall-themed activities while practicing mouse skills.
1st Grade - Students will create a fall acrostic poem using Microsoft Word.
2nd Grade - Students will explore more typing websites.
5th Grade - Students will use Google Earth to practice latitude and longitude and complete challenges.

This Week in the Lab - October 15-19

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd - Students will receive their new code.org accounts and begin working on their new challenges.
4th Grade - Students will plot and summarize the landmarks from the northeast region of the United States.

2nd Grade Google Earth Project - Students will learn how to use Google Earth while exploring sites from the book "Greetings from Route 66".

Kindergarten and 5th Grade - 5th Grade students will share their "You Hold Me Up" audio books with kindergarten students.

This Week in the Lab - October 1-5

5th Grade Audacity Project
Students will use Audacity to record an audio version of the book "You Hold Me Up".  After recording their voice, they will learn to edit by adding sound effects including page turns.  They will share the final published file with a kindergarten student.

1st Grade - Students will continue to work with Microsoft Word and practice changing fonts, colors, and sizes.

Kindergarten - Students will continue working on their mouse skills through various websites and games.

Kindergarten - 1st Grade - 2nd Grade
Students will come to the lab to work on grade-appropriate computer skills (logging in, mouse/keyboard, Microsoft Word, typing).

3rd Grade
Students will use Nearpod to discuss what Cyberbullying is and ways to deal with it.

4th Grade
Students will be introduced to Google Maps by plotting locations, typing a description, and choosing a picture.

5th Grade
Select students will begin a Makerspace exploration.

6th Grade
Students will use various search tools and strategies to be successful on Geoguessr.

Virtual Reality Tour - All Grades

Students and teachers will get an opportunity to try out our brand new Virtual Reality cart!  We will use VR this year to enhance current lessons with digital content available on Google Expeditions.

1st Grade - Students will complete their Earth Day projects in Microsoft Word.

2nd Grade - Students will complete their "What I Am" projects in Microsoft Word.

Kindergarten - Students will participate in a listening activity where they draw a picture on Tux Paint based on a verbal description.

2nd Grade - Students will create a "What I Am" document in Microsoft Word.

6th Grade Astronomy Project - Students will use Kerbal Space Program to build rockets, simulate spaceflight, and test out science theories.

2nd Grade - Students will complete their racetracks in our engineering project.

4th Grade - Students will discuss digital citizenship and photo editing using Nearpod.

2nd Grade Engineering Project - The final project for our engineering unit.  Students will use the engineering process to design and build a working racetrack.

Kindergarten - Students will build Lego creations after reading a book about spring.

Kindergarten - Students will explore world landmarks using Geoguessr.

1st Grade - Students will visit and learn about the Statue of Liberty through virtual reality and Nearpod.

2nd Grade - Students will practice the engineering process by building and testing a working roller coaster.

          

This Week in the Lab - March 5-9

3rd Grade Area & Perimeter with Minecraft Edu - Students will design a house on a paper grid, and then calculate the area of each room.  They will then construct the identical house in Minecraft Edu, making sure that the perimeter and area of each room match.  Once a foundation is built, they will add walls, floors, and decorations as time allows.

Kindergarten - Students will use Nearpod and virtual reality to explore various landmarks around the world.

5th Grade - Students will use Sphero to explore the mathematical relationship between time, speed, and distance.

1st Grade - My School Project - Students will create a PowerPoint presentation that tells about their school year, including pictures they create and clip art.
