6th Grade MinecraftEdu - Early Humans Day 2

Please answer the following questions in one comment below:
1.) Describe what it was like in each stage of “hunter/gatherers”.  What were the challenges you faced along the way?
2.) Did each stage get easier?  If so, why?
3.) How do you think technology advances affected the hunters and gatherers that we are trying to simulate?
4.) What differences can you see from the simulation of Minecraft to the reality of early humans' (hunter/gatherers) experiences?

  1. In Minecraft it's not really like now in days. For example, If i wanted to build something i would hire someone to do it for me. One reason how Minecraft is similar to Early Modern Humans is if you want something to be build you build it by yourself. Another reason why those two are alike is you have to hunt and gather your food. Also you have to have the sort of supplies you need for your task. These are all reasons why Minecraft and Early Modern Humans are alike.

  2. The Neolithic Age and the game Mine craft may seem comepletily different ,but they actually have a lot in common. First in Mine craft you have to kill or collect your own food. In neolithic Age They had to grow and collect their own food. They also might have to kill a deer for protein. Next in Mine craft their are creepers and zombies.I'm not saying this is what they had to survive against ,but a creeper could represent a coyote. Lastly it mine craft You have to build your own homes out of materials you find. In Neolithic Age they had to build homes out of stone mud and clay. These are all materials they found. There are a few more examples but these are just a couple. Now you know how hard it was to live in the Neolithic Age.

  3. It is like it because you have to get your own tools and gather food shelter. We had to work together to get past all the levels and the neolithic people had to gather food and work together to get past all the rough things that are out.It also was the same because there we communties that had groups and each group would have together something that needed to survive. The game was all about working together like neolithic people did to survive.

  4. In day 2 of our Minecraft simulation, we went to the two next stages, which were Australopithecus Afarensis, and Homo Erectus. In these two stages, there were many differences from day 1, like having to build a shelter, and survive. In the Australopithecus Afarensis stage, we had to make a shelter and survive, which was very hard, especially for me, since I never played Minecraft. It was very difficult for me, and there were some challenges I faced. We had no tools, and I couldn’t find any food, so I didn’t survive at all. Well, many of us did not survive. In the Homo Erectus stage, we got tools and a coal furnace to cook the food. Sadly, once again, I didn’t find any food. It was very hard for me. In the second stage, I thought it would get easier. It did not. Now that everyone had tools, everyone was hunting, and there was no food that I could find. It did not get any easier. Personally, I think it got harder. I think it might have been easier for the hominids because they might have thought things were getting easier with tools. They had lived their whole lives having to hunt for food. Since things are not like that now, because we are able to go to the grocery store and get food, it was hard. Also, I have never played Minecraft! I can’t believe that early hominids survived with so little. I can not imagine living like that. The game was hard enough, imagine living like that.

  5. When we were in the each stage of "hunter/gatherers" some challenges that I have faced were having to find food and know where to go and what to kill/hunt and knowing about where to stay depending on food/animals that were there and the types that don't poison you without using a furnace and honestly that was pretty hard especially when Mr.Dunn sped up the hunger process on mine-craft.
And the stages did not get easier in-fact harder because each time Mr.Dunn would raise the speed of losing food bars which also meant losing health and dying quicker and quicker which would make my life in mine-craft a lot harder then usual so that was definitely not easier even though he gave us new Armour and tools it got faster and faster each time and harder and each stage had even LESS food until we were at the point where their was no food at ALL.
And some of the technology advances affected us by easier hunting like bows/arrows and swords and mine-craft relates to the early humans' by showing all of that advancement and crafting and getting all of those resources and surviving to survive.
And some differences that I saw were that the trees did not fall and that was totally unrealistic and not what it was like back then in the early humans' and another difference that I saw was that the food went down unrealistically because the human body should at least be able to sustain 3 days without food which was definitely not happening on mine-craft...

  6. Day 2 on Minecraft, we went to these 2 stages which were Australopithecus Afarensis and Homo Erectus. The first stage which we were simulating were to only build shelter and eat food, building a shelter was pretty easy because I've played Minecraft a lot before but eating food without fire to cook it? Now that is a problem, I began to build a shelter and beating a sheep with my fists in order to get food. I looked to my top right to my screen and found some interesting deaths from my classmates, one tried to swim in lava, someone fell to their death, I well....erm...uh kind of exploded.. Because I fell into one of those desert temples and found loot, one of my classmates fell into the hole and stepped on a pressure plate and we both died from TNT. So anyways we simulated the next stage, it was A LOT easier because we could make different kinds of tools and we could do jobs more easily. I built a shelter and cooked some lamb chops/Mutton, I had a great time simulating this on Minecraft, I can't wait what happens tomorrow!

  7. Each stage of hunters and gatherers was different because each stage you got more stuff to start with instead of nothing. Challenges that I faced were the fact that I didnt have anything to use for protection. Each stage kink of got easier only the fact that I fell in lava so I died from that. Technology advanced a lot because in that time frame they didnt have that type of technology to use. I can see that in mine craft your able to build more things than what they could build then.

  8. First I thought is would be easy to live in early hominid because there is no monster in night like minecraft. Early human have a bad time because they don't had tool or cloth and weapons to protect them self from predators in the forest. It really hard to find foods because they don't have weapons,They only eat vegetables and fruits. The game is hard enough to me because it almost exactly the same as real life to me is was very difficult to survive without anything but you hands.

  9. On day 2 of mine craft some of the challenges were that I didn't have anything to kill animals with or I couldn't find food/animals.
Each stage got easier because we got more tools to work with and the tool could be to build, get food, and dig.
It affects it because usually people like to use computers or electronics and it easier to understand.it is also mor fun then doing it in the book.
It is different becausee in the early life they had to use fire to cook food and use matirials
found on ground.today we can use power tools and steel and metal to build house.

  10. It was hard to be hunters and gatherers because there were no tools to help us kill the animals to eat and the envierment was hard to live in. I died very fast in the game. Some challenges were when we had to find food, but had no way to slay the animal or gather any food. I think that the stages got harder because everyone else was killing the animals so others couldn't get to the animals to survive. The technology advanced more because we actually had tools to help live. Some differences are in Minecraft you can actually go into a creative mode. With the early modern humans (and even now) you can't fly, have a full invenory to live (that stuff would NOT fit in you pocket or hand), or not die when you fall more than 9ft. you can die from falling more than at least 1ft.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Some challenges that I faced were hunger and moving from place to place without worrying about my surroundings.Yes each stage did get easier yet harder at the same time. It was easier to get resources but harder to find food because everyone had the same stuff as you.Technology advancement effects it because Mr. Dunn could make hunger go faster or make things hit harder.Minecraft is different from the hunters/gatherers because it is a blocky world and if you kill an animal it drops the meat automatically even though in real life it would just die and you would have to clean it and skin it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. In each stage of hunters/gatherers the challenges were that we did not have a lot of time to survive.I say that because we did not have a lot of time in class. The challenges we faced was that we could not find any food and we did not have a lot of resources.
The second stage did got easier because we a had armor and torches and coal to cook food in the furnace. We could also dig up things for resources.
It affects them because we can’t really tell how they exactly look we can only picture it in our head.we can kinda picture it out but we don't know the exact look of the early mankind. It also affects them because we don't know what kinds of tools that they used to hunt an to gather food.
The difference that i see is that in minecraft you can't really act like all the different types of monkeys. What,I mean by that is that is that the moneys who didn't walk upright at first because in minecraft you can't crouch.another thing i noticed is that In minecraft some people were stealing other people's things just to survive and way back when some apes did that because they were greedy.

  13. In Australopithecus Afarensis it hard to survive when I don't have tools, food, I don't have anything and it really fast to get hungry , around me had not animals to hunt. I start to get wood form trees to make tools and thing but it not to well I die because I don't have food to eat a little more second later I die. In Homo Erectus I have tools and I survived longer than last time but I still if this is a real life I thing that I don't going to survive.

  14. For day two we simulated Australopithecus Afarensis and Neanderthals. We needed food, a lot of food! If we didn't get enough food in time, we would die due to starvation. It was very hard because there was barely any animals around our area which forced a lot of people to go a lot of places. Everybody died because it was very hard for everyone! For me it got harder, but that's just probably because of the simulation because we killed all the animals in stage 1. But in some aspects, it got easier since we had tools, armor, furnaces and coals. The tools helped the gatherers and hunters. The armor helped protect from falling and such. The furnace and coal (fire) helped us cook our foods. The difference is that their is sandstone temples with signs, treasures, and wools, and such. It may seem like a similarity but in some aspects its very different. Another thing is early hominids did not respawn! Also there are like almost no animals. Back then they had a lot of animals in different types of biomes, but maybe it's just because we spawned in the desert. This was my response!

  15. When we had to simulate the hominids who were hunters and gatherers, firstly Australopithecus Afarensis, it was quite hard to survive. For example, we had to find food quickly, and if there were no animals in the area, we had to quickly find another area that was populated with animals to provide us food. But, most of the time, you would starve before you could find more animals. A lot of times, if you were able to find an area with animals, people would have already hunted the animals there. When we were able to use tools to simulate the Homo Erectus, it got moderately less challenging, but it still required a great deal of effort to survive. Once again, there was not much food to eat. The tools helped us to hunt more swiftly, but there was not much to hunt. I think technology advances, such as better tools, greatly helped the hunters and gatherers. They definitely helped them to hunt. Without a weapon to hunt, they must've had to kill the animals with their bare hands, which seems quite difficult. The MineCraft simulation helped us to find out what it was like to find food back then, but I can also see some differences between the reality of early hunters and gatherers and our simulation. For example, they did not starve in 2 minutes. Early humans had more time to hunt than we did, as they probably could go a little longer without food. Another thing is, I don't think it would be as easy as it was in the game to kill a cow with your bare hands. But in the end, I can conclude that it would be very hard to be a human back then. It was hard for me to survive in a virtual world, filled with happy sheep, I couldn't imagine living back then.

  16. In minecraft we learned how it was in the day of the life of a Neanderthal and Austropithecus. We learned the challenges they had to face and it was hard. When we had to hunt we learned it was hard to find food and hunt it.In the first stage we did not have any tools we had to kill it with no tools which is not easy. Even though in the second stage we had tools it was still pretty hard to run after them and still kill them while running. The stages did not get easier except for the tools we were given. Well technology changes the stages a little bit because in minecraft we had the tools we were ready to go on the other hand, we would have to look for supplies and and build it ourselves with no help. Now I see some of tasks and challenges they had to face but on minecraft it's not as bad cause there are no animals that kill just dying of hunger, while in their lives they had to find shelter, food, and weapons. These are all reasons comparing minecraft to early modern humans and explanations of what challenges we faced.

  17. It was hard to do the second day of the mine-craft simulation. We had to gather food but we couldn't it was hard.I had no tools but i didn't survive. The first time we did this on Australopithecus Afarensis it was hard to survive because I would starve to death because I couldn't find food.I had no tools or shelter it was difficult for me because I never played mine-craft I played it once with my cousint but this was way harder. This simulation shows have hard they had it.They
had to gather food it would be very hard. They had to build a shelter with tools they would find.In the mine-craft simulation you have to figure out how to build a shelter and we would have to build a shelter. They had to learn how to build a shelter, they had to gather food to.If I were them I wouldn't have survived if I lived in this age.

  18. Minecraft is about surviving on your own, every day and night. Very similar to how the Early Hominids (a.k.a Early humans) lived. In the first stage there was no tools, no armor, really no materials. So I faced the challenge of trying to find food to eat. I couldn't find lots of animals and I got distracted by a sand temple. In the second stage I had been given a furnace to cook my food, coal, tools, armor, and a bow and arrow. Just like Early humans had to find food and make things to help them gather their food. They eventually did make tools just like in the second stage. The stages did not really get easier within the stages themselves, as the stages separate it did get a bit easier. Since the second stage I had been given tools so it was a bit easier, I could kill animals easier and I could cook my food. As the stages themselves it was frustrating, in the first stage I found it hard to find food. Just like the Early humans had to move from place to place to find their next meal each day. With the second stage I survived longer, with a furnace to cook my food, and I had better luck with finding animals. Just like the Homo Erectus started to develop tools, that could help them gather their food. Technology definately advances what the simulation was to what the Early humans actually had to go through. Minecraft definately isn't entirely like what the Early humans went through, but it's really close. Minecraft has more features and more supplies than what the Early humans had, like in Minecraft you can easily break wood. Early humans also didn't have big brains, so they didn't easily make or create things.

  20. In our second day of trying to survive in our mine craft simulation, it was very different. We still had to find food, (which was very hard), get supplies to survive, and more. I think the stages did get slightly easier. Saying that we had tools given to us since our ape was more evolved, the second stage. We were given leather armor, a stone sword, a bow and arrow, and more simple tools. We were also allowed to chat, unlike the first stage where we had to "grunt". Getting more and more advanced in technology has changed our ways of life. A lot. Going from simple sticks to more advanced tools like a bow and arrow is a BIG change. In our mine craft simulation, we are trying to simulate how hard it would be to live and survive in different time periods. When we died in mine craft, you have the opportunity to "re spawn". IN the real world, you don't get a second chance. If/when we died in our simulation, we didn't get to re spawn. We were put into "mine craft heaven'. So far, we've realized how hard it actually is to live in old time periods. It was hard to survive 10 minutes in mine craft, imagine how hard it was to survive in real life!

  21. For day two we reenacted Australopithecus Afarensis for part one. For day two we reenacted Neanderthals for part two. The biggest challenge was food to survive. Since we spawned in a desert biome, it was harder to find animals. Also since people hogged the animals, I barely got to any. Our hunger went down so fast and by the end of the first session, everyone died because Mr.Dunn needed to speed up time because we only had a few less than an hour so he gave everyone hunger. Or maybe it's because we didn't get enough food in time. In the second session we had armor, furnace and coal (fire) and torches and tools. We died because we still didn't find food in time but it was easier. It was easier the second time because of all the supplies we had. The difference is that we spawned and people didn't spawn back then xD. We also died and was resurrected somehow and kept coming back? Back then we didn't respawn as ourselves! Another thing is time goes faster and you die more easily. There is a lot of differences from minecraft and early modern human life. Like how its so easy to find diamonds and cut down a tree. Speaking of trees back then trees and blocks didn't float! The world back then was not a square. We did a lot on day two of Minecraft simulation!

  22. In stage 1 it was hard because we started out with nothing and in like 30 seconds we were already almost dead.In stage 2 it was way easier because we started with tools such as a furnace, bow and arrows, a sword, and some armor. The armor really helped because we didn't die so quickly.I think each stage did get easier because in stage 2 we started with tools and more advanced items that are hard to get and mostly make.I think the technology really helped simulate it because it is way better than reading and I am into min craft. It also gives you a visual. It is different because you randomly spawn somewhere. Also there were just farm animals that did not give us a lot of meat to survive, meaning with our help.

  23. Life back then with the early modern humans was very difficult. Today we played Minecraft and simulated how the Australopithecus Afarensis group lived and there were many challenges. First of all, we had no resources and could not talk to each other since no language had been created. It was very hard because we were all starving and there was limited food. Also, there were no tools to use. I didn't survive very long in this round. After we had simulated the Australopithecus Afarensis group we moved on to the Homo Erectus group. The challenge that we faced again was the limited food supply. There was not enough food for everyone to eat.
As we progressed to the next stage it did get slightly easier because this was the first group to use fire so we had a furnace to cook food. We also had some tools. I still didn't survive this round.
Technology can help us simulate the life of the hunters and gatherers because because it is a good way for all of us to interact with each other in a fun way. Personally, I think this is a really fun way of learning more about how the early hominids lived long ago.
There are some differences from the Minecraft simulation and the reality of the early humans. For example,in Minecraft you die quicker from hunger, but in reality they didn't die instantly but they did die within a few days, maybe even a few weeks. Also, in the simulation the animals didn't attack, but most likely they would attack the early hominids.
Honestly if you were just to throw me out in a field with no resources I would die almost instantly. I still think it's crazy that we have so many people living today. Also how we evolved to looking like this.

  24. In each stage of "Hunters/Gatherers" you would have to gather clothes, collect wood, hunt for food (Animals), and build a shelter to live in. The challenges that I faced along the way were that when I collected wood to build a shelter it took a very long time to finally get. Also when I had to kill animals I was dying of hunger and I had food poisoning each time I ate, because it was raw meat. Honestly no, each stage did not get easier because even though we had brand new tools, it still took me the same amount of time to die. I think that technology advancements affected hunters and gatherers
that we are trying to simulate. I think this because back when they had to hunt for food, make their own clothes (From scratch), and many other things. Now and days we go to all different types of stores
to buy clothes with money ( Which they didn't have, they had to trade). I can see a difference between the simulation of Minecraft and the reality of early humans' ( Hunters/Gatherers) experiences. The difference that I see is that in Minecraft it takes a matter of minutes until you die of hunger. In the reality of early humans it will take you up to about three days (Or more) to die of hunger. Minecraft and the reality of early humans have many things to compare, or similarities and differences.

  25. in the first stage which was Australopithecus we didn't have any tools so it was harder to stay alive. I have played minecraft before. And since I've played it I thought I would be the last person standing. But of course that did not happen. I was like the first person to go to minecraft heaven. But in the second stage which was all of us simulating we were the Homo Erectus it was a bit easier because we got to start off with toolss and my favorite part, we have a fernece. The fernece is basically a stove that you would put coal in it and you would put the meat in it, and have good cooked meat. When we did both stages I personally think that they were both hard so i'm just taking a wild guess that tomorrow things will get a little bit easier since we will have better tools. So pretty I struggled staying alive today, and in minecraft you have more than one life, but in the real world the hominids only had one, and if they didn't use it correctly they couldn't get another one back.

  26. In day 2 with Mr.Dunn learning about minecraft simulation we went up to the next two steps. Australopithecus Afarensis and Homo Erectus. In both stages there was many challenges we faced. I did not think the levels got easier because on Homo Erectus (level two) no one could find food, However we did have some weapons but they didn't help as much as we thought they would because we need food to survive not weapons! for that reasoning many of us all died of starvation. I think technology advances the simulation of hunters and gatherers because back then we didn't have many tools and objects to store them in. Now we have chests and bows, knifes, guns etc. I think you are trying to simulate how hard it was to live back in those hard times. I don't know how they survived! I cant imagine living like that! Overall im way more impressed of the Australopithicus Afarensis and the Homo Erectus more then i was from when we first started this project. I am very excited to go one for stages 3 and possibly 4!

  29. It was easier to be a hunter that a gatherer because as a hunter you had tools and materials and a gatherer you didn't.And with more tools you can get materials faster. The stage got easier because when you have weapons everything can be easier such as destroying animals to get food, getting materials to build things and getting dirt sand and wood. Technology effected the simulation because with the power of technology it gave you weapons armor and a furnace just like that. And how it seeded up the starvation. The differences i can make about reality and the game is that in the game instead of making you build the materials and tools they jut give it to you and in real life you have to build it.another difference i can make about the game and real life is that there will be more than just sheep cows and pigs to eat. those are the differences i can make about the game and real life.

  30. Being a hunter was easier because you had tools and materials but it was still hard overall because early humans did not have as much as we have today.Yes the stage got easier because when you have more materials you can build more things.Technology affects the simulation because with the power of technology it gave you not only weapons but armor and a furnace. Also the technology that we used made the starvation process go faster. The differences I can make about how it was in reality and real life is instead of actually having you make your own weapons the automatically give them to you along with armor too. Those are the differences I can make about real life and the game.

  31. It's day 2 of our minecraft journey , and more challenges are rising. We were hunters and gatherers, and there are simians on the loose. It was like the purge for survival except that we weren't killing each other we were hitting sheep. With our bare hands ,because we did not have any tools ,food, water ,fire, coal, sticks ,or even a single block of wood.Yes, it was torture considering it is hard to only make funny noises instead of talking like a human being.Mr.Dunn,doesn't no how hard it is not to speak! But he did have a good simulation on how it was for the Australopithecus Afarensis or as we know them as Lucy.Though the first part was hard ,it got easier we had coal , armor, fire, hunting tools ,you name it we had it.That made me live longer just a little bit more than I did last time.Well because I am not the gamer .That's my brother's job,I'm the sleeper. But that is besides the point, it was easier in the second part of the hunter gatherers because we had supplies.Mr. Dunn was trying to simulate the Homo Neanderthals. Which were the second most modern hominid group right after the homo sapiens sapiens. As I just listed most things the Homo Neanderthals had. They might have , had more tools but those are some of the basics. They had a lot more. I liked this simulation, but in real life It would be a living nightmare with no TV, internet ,but more important WiFi! I would die of boredom ,but it's more likely I'd die of starvation because I was to lazy to get my own food. They must have been in pretty good shape considering that they literally had to chase their own food. How did they survive ? I don't know how I were to survive for I'm much to lazy to do that. Thankfully we have Shop Rite even though I don't always get what I want,I don't have to chase my mom to go to the store. Now I'm pleased that I have the privilege to play minecraft and type on this computer today thanks to an evolution that lasted centuries and probably more to come. Life is crazy!

  32. The early stage was difficult I can assume. They had to find food. They had to build shelter. Some challenges I faced along the way in Minecraft was to gather food. It was really hard for me because I had really never played Minecraft before. For day 1 was easy and for day 2 it git kinda hard. Even though we had better tools. We still had to get food and make shelter.I think that advance effected to hunter and gathers is that it was so much more useful for food and shelter/more useful for living. Now we can just drive our selfs or ask some one to do things for us or to give us money to buy things like shelter/houses. Some differences between the early human in mincraft and the just early humans is that in the game is that u can use tools they give you to hunt and to find home. The other is that they had to find things around them to use to get food and to get shelter. Just playing as it was hard enough. I can't imagine really being there. The early stage was difficult I cab assume. You had to survive on your on and try to learn how to use your tools wisely and know how to use your tools.I lost my fire place because i didn't have everything i needed i needed food and i didn't have food and i had to go out on look and someone came along and took my fire place. My stage got a little easier when Mr.dunn gave us tools to use then i could kill animals faster and be protected from animals that could cause me to lose hearts. If effected because I was on survival mode and each level got harder, but at the same time getting more advanced tools that relates to early hominids because over the years they kept getting advanced.

  34. In Minecraft we used simulations to help understand Australopithecus. We had nothing. We couldn't talk, we couldn't craft we had nothing. Then we did Homo Erectus. That went slightly better. We got a bow, arrows, leather amour, and a sword with a furnace and coal. Mobs can represent real life threats like back then when you hunted. You have to build a shelter to be safe from mobs...Well If you make it to night. That's when mobs spawn. This is how real life and minecraft can connect.

  35. It was a fun to experience the stage of hunters and gatherers. It was easier than the first try because we had tools. I challenge was that I couldn't communicate with other people. It’s better using mine craft because it simulates early life and how the hominids lived. In mine craft it was easier because everywhere there were food and some trees, but in the early human's’ life there weren’t always trees and some food everywhere all the time.

  36. Today we did Minecraft once again! So this time we played in 2 different stages, Australopithecus Afarensis and Homo Erectctus. So the first stage, we had to go build shelter, so since I have played Minecraft before I thought it shouldn't be hard but eating raw food without cooking it? Now that was a problem, I saw this structure which was not part of our simulation but I decided to go there since so many people were already there, I knew what the structure was so I fell into a hole where all this loot/treasure was, I avoided the traps inside so I thought I was good but one of my classmates stepped on a pressure plate and killed us both...Yeah um that was not the most interesting death, someone tried to swim in lava. So anyway the next stage was A LOT more easier so I was able to build a shelter and cook some food, so it was very fun and exciting. I can't wait for today!

  37. In the first stage of Minecraft (Australopithecus Afarensis) we had to survive in a world just like they would have done. We had to make tools, find food and possibly build a shelter as fast as we could. While we were doing this our food and health were continuing to go down at a fast pace. I found a sheep I could use for food, but once I ate it and it didn't do much for my health. This lead to my death. The second stage (Homo Erectus) was a lot easier. Just like how the hominids developed new tools and made fire, we did to. We spawned into the world and had armor, a sword, coal, and a furnace to cook food. This time I got two sheep for food, but again I died. I do think that the stages got easier as I went through them. Already having the supplies you need saves you time and makes a big difference in the difficulty level. I think the hunter and gatherers would love and appreciate the new technologies they developed. Imagine if each day you put a random thing in the ground and hope that it grows and creates food. I think they might have also been relieved that once they learned and practiced hunting or growing food that they could pass it on to their children. Although in Minecraft a lot f things can be simulated and be similar to the early humans, there are some big differences. In the game if you die you can easily spawn again. In the real world if you died you wouldn't come back. A big difference in Minecraft is mobs. They could have had to fight or protect themselves from animals that were a threat to them but they did not have mobs. Some vicious mobs in Minecraft are skeletons, zombie pigmen, creepers, and zombies. It must of been crazy having to live then and do what they had done. I wonder how they would have felt if they were given the chance to play Minecraft and simulate that just like we did.

Hunters and gathers were like you had to get your food before you died from hunger. The farming age was you had to get the seed to plant and you have more tools to.The stages did not get easier because you still starved to death any way. Technology made it easier because to hunt and farm. Things that were different was you died easier and you did not craft thongs back then. EJ Geigel

  40. In day two, we finally get to experience how the Australopithecus Afarensis group and Homo Erectus group lived. In minecraft, we faced a lot of challenges along the way. In both stages, there were lots of people, and very little animals. Which meant that nobody could survive...and that's exactly what happened. Everyone starved to death because there were barely any animals kill. Along with that, our food bars would go down quickly before you know it. Another problem I faced was that I had no tools to gather materials with. So I had to start from scratch. To me, this seems really hard, but early humans had to face a lot more problems. Minecraft and life back then was not alike, in fact, they are very different. First of all, gathering wood was very different. In minecraft, you could just punch the wood, but in real life, you "needed" tools to do so. Early humans made hand axes to get wood, definitely not as easy as nowadays. Another major difference is animals. In minecraft, you could come up to the animal, and punch it. Early humans could come up to the animal, but it would run away.
In he second stage, I learn that we get tools, coal and more, since we moved on to the Homo Erectus. This group was smarter. I learn that I get tools. I thought it would get much easier, and it did! But the stage also got harder. The tools helped me, but I got hungry really fast. I needed food desperately. As I search for food, I realized that all the animals had been killed from the last stage. I lost hope, and let myself die. Sad, I know. But know I know that if minecraft can be hard, then a early human's life can be very, very hard.

  41. On the second day of or Minecraft project we were sent out with  no food, water, or tools. This made it difficult to survive. The reason was because we had to kill or collect our own food. Since we're killing our own food without a weapon it made it harder for us to kill the animal. Eventually everyone died from starvation or killed themselves by accident.  Stage one was to represent Australopithecus. On the second stage we again had to survive on our own with no food or shelter, But this time we all had tools. A bow, sword, axe, pickaxe, and shovel. I feel this gave us an advantage because we didn’t have to spend more time and energy getting material to build the tools. Since this we were able to kill more animals. We also had a coal furnace so we could cook the meat and give us more health. A down side was since everyone was killing animals there was less animals to kill. This was supposed to represent the Homo Erectus. In my opinion stage two was slightly easier than stage one for the  reason of the tools. There are many things in common between Minecraft and the early hominids, but there were differences too. For example in Minecraft you could sprint, walk, and jump and not get tired. So for the earlier hominids they would have probably got tired and had to stop. I think this because I know if I do all of these things for a long period I’ll get tired too. Also in Minecraft you can go and kill and animals with your fist. I definitely know back in the earlier hominids  they didn’t go walk around punching animals. They can Minecraft may seem all fun which it is, but the game has a lot in common with what the earlier hominids had to live through, and how they overcame many challenges.

  42. The challenges in being a hunter gather are really hard. You have to find food, without starving to death. You have to build shelter, and you have to make sure you cook the food. While not dying. Each stage did get a little easier. Kinda, you have to survive and you can’t communicate to find out where the food is! It was much more easier the second stage. The simulators are fun to play around with, but it is kinda hard. But I think doing it in real life is much more harder. I’m just happy we didn’t have to do it in real life. All I can say is, is that it must have been hard for them hunter gathers. They have to worry about not dying, and have to find food that can’t kill them. Also they have to cook food without burning it. They had it hard back then. I'm just happy to live in 2016.

  44. In the first stage of "hunters/gatherers" it was very hard. You had to worry about finding food and could not cook the food. You had to make tools yourself and if you could not find food you would slowly die of hunger. In the second stage you spawned with a variety of tools and could now cook food. You still had to worry about finding food. It was easier but it was still very difficult. It got easier because you did not have to make tools and cooked food replenishes more hunger than uncooked food. The advancements helped the early humans by being able to create fire to cook food so you did not get poisoned or sick. Another way the advancements helped is the ability to create more advanced tool so they can hunt and do jobs better. Some differences from reality and the simulation are in minecraft you cant gather food, you can only hunt. Another difference is that in reality they had to actually make the tools but in minecraft you just spawn with tools. Those are some things that you can learn from minecraft about the stone age.

  45. Each stage was really hard because we had hunger that instantly took all our hunger. Each stage did get easier because we spawned with tools on the second stage. Technology advanced because we could talk in chat on the second stage unlike the first stage. One difference was that when that hungry they didn't instantly lose hunger.

  46. Each stage were different but some of the stages were harder then others. like in day one in minecraft we had to survive in the wood by our self with nothing no tools or fire NOTHING!!!!!! In day two we had supplies tools, armer, and it was easier to hunt. The challenge was to survive as long as you can and it was hard. AS we got more into the challenge it was eaiser because they got smarter and we had ore tools to survive. Technology now would help the early humans alot. They had bow and arrows rocks slings shots their selfs and look at us we have phones gps's guns alarm systems if th early hiumans had this stuff it would help them alot. The early humans Is very different from minecraft let me give you an example in minecraft its a little eaiser to find food not saying its easy but its hard to hunt for food before now. Also In minecraft its all fun and games but in real life its a live or die situation. The game is already hard how do you think it is going to be in real life.

  47. Today we started the actual Minecraft simulation with two different stages. In the first stage we played in the shoes of the Australopithecus Afarensis. The stage was extremely hard because we had no tools. We had to kill animals with our fists to provide for our food making life tremendously difficult. If we were starving, it would take a long time and huge amount of effort to get food to get food. After getting food we would die and go to Minecraft haven. This is one of the challenges that we faced. When it came to the second stage things became easier, but only because we were now in the in the shoes of the Homo erectus. We now had tools such as a bow, a fire, armor that made the quest for food quicker and easier. To sum it up quickly the first stage was very hard, but in the second stage it got progressively easier. Before we had tools it was very hard to live, but with the development of technology it made life became easier. People could shoot animals with their simple bows. They could live longer and healthier now because they could cook, and hunt food quicker. Some of the differences were; when playing Minecraft, we would die quickly. In Minecraft a life time was only lived in a day. That’s only because we didn’t have much time. In real life people couldn’t find any animals around them probably except for birds. They would have to search for different animals to provide food. In Minecraft animals would be abundant you would not have to track for them. Another difference is that the Australopithecus Afarensis would eat plants and berries. In Minecraft you eat mostly meat not berries. The Australopithecus Afarensis would mostly gather not hunt. They would only eat meat if an animal had died. The Homo erectus made to to hunt and they could stand up right. In Minecraft we would always stand upright, and tools were provided for our use. Living a long time ago was brutal I would not want to live back then. Their only priorities were to eat and not be eaten.

  48. 1) What it was like being in the hunter and gathers it was very hard some made it some did not. You could see that they couldn't get the stuff or food they needed and so they starved and starved until it went away. It was very hard for them to survive. Yes! there was a lot of challenges we faced as we were like them trying to survive. 2) No it did not get easier it was like the same but, you still had to get food and make shelter just to survive and not die. You could see that the gathers and hunters lived like this even though they had stuff. They could still die from starvation. 3)I think that the stuff we had today is very easy then the stuff we had before. Think about it we have homes that humans build for us we didn't build one by ourselves workers did but, in the early human day you could see that they needed to do it by themselves they didn't pay a lot for it. Early humans had to gather the stuff they needed just to build a house. We in todays world have phones any technology but they didn't have it. 4)It was way more different then us because they had to do everything them selves. The hunters and gathers had to get everything just so they could survive. The stuff that they been to must be very hard and a lot of work. If I was put in the early humans today and try to survive in real life i for sure wouldn't make it. - Eddy

  49. There were many challenges I faced in the stages of hunters and gathers. For example I had to hunt for food in Mine Craft but I didn't know how to.And also another challenge I faced was that I couldn't ask for help because at that stage the early humans couldn't speak, they could only grunt. But the stages got easier because the early humans got more weapons to hunt and make shelter, some weapons that the homonyms made were bows and arrows, also spears, and many more. The technology has changed a lot since the early humans. For example now instead of using spears and arrows to hunt we now use guns and knives. That is what it was like in each stage of hunters,if the simulations got easy and how the technology advanced since the early humans.

Each stage did get easier because int the beginning I didn't have weapons then as time went on I got weapons so I could get food and stay alive. In Minecraft If you die you can respawn in a different area in real life if you die you don't come back. I think technology made them a lot smarter because as time wet on their brains started getting bigger and bigger every day.

  52. In each stage you had the challenge of finding your own food which was different kinds of animals. The biggest challenge was staying live, and actually hunting the animals. Each stage got easier because from stage one we didn't have any tools to work with but by stage two we had different kinds of tools to make hunting easier. This could be an example of technology advances. The technology advance makes the hunters and gatherers job easier to survive. The reality of early humans would be way different then the simulation. Although you can simulate hunting and gathering you cant simulate the feelings from reality of early humans.

  54. In minecraft i realized that the hunter and gatherings had a pretty rough time surviving in the wild .In minecraft i was able to tell that the people had to kill lots and lots of animals just for a dinner.Maybe some of them just ate the meat raw and not cooked ,which can give food poisoning. In minecraft I faced lots of challenges , for example most of the time i was food poisoned which meant that my food and heath went down which caused me to die.And every new level got easier because the hunters and gathering were more advance and had more things than they had back then, the hunters and gatherings were probably more smarter and had a bigger brain. The technology had a huge help with everybody because they can move faster with better tools and objects. They were able to get more things done with everything advance. In minecraft and in the hunter and gatherings time you can tell that it was very difficult for everybody and everybody in minecraft because you would have to have food, a good place to live , and a nice interment where you can easily find your resources that you need. IN both life styles you can tell it was very difficult.

  55. Day 2 of minecraft simulation was very different from day 1 of minecraft simulation. In the first stage, which was the Australopithecus Afarensis, we had no tools to cut down or break objects that we needed to overcome the challenges that we had to face and solve. We also had to find and gather food to eat. By the time I went out and looked, there wasn't much food left as everyone had already killed every animal before I had a chance to go out, so there was no food left. Because I had a little food, my health was going down, so I decided to eat. Usually eating is a good idea, but apparently, this time, it wasn't. It was raw, I didn't have anything to cook it with, so that made it extremely difficult for me. I looked all around me, I saw no tree trunks but just leaves floating in the air. I thought to myself, they got the trees, too? I had to go look for trees in another place, then I died, and it was over. The next stage was Homo Erectus. They had it a little better. We had a couple of tools to use to make it easier for ourselves, but it still was very hard. I came out of the cave the second time, I went to find animals to kill, but even before anyone came, there still was nothing. I didn't know what to do, so I went to build some shelter. I dug in the side of a mountain and hoped for the best. I was dying of hunger. Each time I died it fell in my "house," I would respone and pick my stuff up again. I kept on doing that routine. It was a big challenge to stay alive, find food, and get supplies to build anything. As each stage went on it didn't seem to me that it was getting any easier. Since everyone went crazy in the first stage about food there wasn't much food in the second stage. Even though we had a furnace to use to cook and burn stuff, we couldn't move it and I couldn't even find anything to put in it! Plus most of the terrain was just desert so there wasn't much food in the desert from the start.
Technology was advancing for the hominids and they were getting smarter on how to build tools, shelter, and how to hunt and gather for food and animals. They knew how to make better tools for different things. They started to work in groups and figured out that it was much easier to do so and that got things down faster. The hominids soon made a tool, the spear thrower, which allowed them to hunt for food from a farther distance, without getting hurt. In the first stage of minecraft we had nothing, so we had to make and gather stuff from "scratch". In the second stage we had a couple tools to work with, which made it easier. As they developed they figured out many ways to make it easier for them to work. Some differences that I see from minecraft simulation and from early humans are that there were probably more animals for humans to hunt then in minecraft. Also, the hominids didn't die from hunger in less then five minutes, unlike playing the minecraft simulation. Plus they didn't respone like we died in minecraft. And humans can just go to a store to get what we need but they had to hunt or farm for what they needed. Even though the game may seem challenging in many ways, hominids had it harder, and I couldn't imagine living like them.

  57. Day 2 part 1 when we had no resources except are bare fists. This was hunter and gathering because we had to hunt to survive but it didn't really help much because when in Minecraft your food bar goes down it means you are going to starve, so when you try to find an animal but the class is in the game too so they probably killed them already. If your lucky enough to find one it only lasts two seconds and then you die.
In stage 2 we got coal, a furnace, armor, a sword so it was much easier (kind of) because in stead of hitting the animal fifteen times but with a sword you can hit it five times. How this represent early hominids is Homo Erectus had tools and had more resources the Australopithecus Afarensis did. Back to Minecraft, so it was kind of hard still with all of the supplies we had because killing an animal you got raw meat but, you had to cook it but I didn't know that so I ate the raw meat and, I got food poisoning. I just now noticed that was what the coal and furnace was for! So I starved to death. If I had to live in that time period I wouldn't last for long!

  59. Each stage in Hunters and gathers, there were challenges that you had to face. In the first stage, you were spawned into a cave. You had to follow the light so that you can get out of the cave. When you got out, you realized that you were spawned in a desert. In front of you, there was desert temple. But somebody fell to the bottom and landed on the pressure plate. Since there was TNT under the floor, the chests with items exploded. Nobody was able to take anything from the chest. So you would have to wander around looking for food. The problem was that you would only see trees. There wasn't any food around. We all starved to death. The next stage, we were given armor, tools and coal to survive. We would chop down the rest of the trees that we could find. Then it was the food. We still weren't able to find any animals. Again, we all starved to death. Technology affected us because stage one was the beginning of humans. Our brains were already developed. The early humans had difficulty to make tools since their brains still haven't developed. Also, in Minecraft we would star out with nothing, but as you get more resources, you have more possibilities.

But on stage two we did have tools and i started to plant some wheat but there werent any animals left and the plants didnt grow fast enough. Mine craft made me realize that Early Hominids had worst days than us and had several people dying each and everyday ,this lesson helped me learn a lot about the hominids already and i couldn't imangine living back in the day.

In the two stages of day 2 we did austropithicus and homo erectus in the austropithicus part we had to find food and wood for shelter how ever the wood part was really hard as cutting down trees didnt get you wood the food part was a little easier as you could find food but you had no tools and the food you got was raw and couldn't keep you alive, the homo erectus isn't that much easier as you had tools but again you didn't get wood often from trees and the food part wasn't easier as you couldnt find food you really had to hunt

  70. It was hard as gathers and hunters because we had to eat raw food.Yes we had tools and we could cook.It effected because we had tools and we didn't have to travel all the time.It was alike because they made tolls and used fire to cook.
