All students will participate in an "Hour of Code" to celebrate Computer Science Education Week.

This Week in the Lab - December 2-6

Kindergarten/1st Grade/2nd Grade - Students will continue working in their code.org accounts preparing for the upcoming Hour of Code.
3rd Grade - Students will use virtual reality to learn more about topics and places using Google Expeditions.
5th Grade - Students will discuss their "Digital Footprint" as well as create their own footprint based upon their online activity.

1st Grade - Students will learn about Google Classroom and Google Slides as they create a turkey using what they are thankful for.

This Week in the Lab - November 18-22

Kindergarten - Students will practice mouse skills and problem solving using Crayon Physics.
1st Grade - Students will practice navigating a virtual environment in MinecraftEdu.
2nd Grade - Students will use virtual reality to explore topics and places using the Google Expeditions app.
4th Grade Programming Project - Students will be introduced to various programming languages including Logo and Scratch.

Kindergarten & 1st Grade - Students will be introduced to virtual reality and will visit different locales around the world.
3rd Grade - Students will learn to how to collaborate in a shared Google Slides presentation.
6th Grade - Students will continue "Early Civilizations" in Minecraft Edu with the goal of creating a thriving community.

This Week in the Lab - November 4-6

2nd & 3rd Grade - Students will learn about "pair programming" and then practice it with a partner in their code.org accounts.
6th Grade - Students will begin "Early Civilizations" using Minecraft Edu.  Students will be divided into different roles and begin working.

This Week in the Lab - October 28-November 1

Kindergarten - Students will visit the "LEGO Wall" for the first time in the lobby.  After sharing a short picture book for inspiration, students will build their own creations to be added to the wall.
1st Grade - Students will learn about pair programming and then work with a partner in their code.org accounts.
4th Grade - Students will apply science concepts as they design and build a working roller coaster based upon provided criteria using the program "Disney Coaster".

1st Grade - Students will practice changing fonts in Microsoft Word using a game called "Find the Font".
2nd Grade - Students will create a "pixel painting" using Tux Paint.
5th Grade - Students will practice utilizing latitude and longitude in Google Earth in a worldwide scavenger hunt.

Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade - Students will work on their assigned course on code.org.  Class will discuss various programming challenges and vocabulary.

Kindergarten - 5th grade students will be sharing the audio books they created for "Dreamers".
1st Grade - Students will create a fall acrostic poem in Microsoft Word.
2nd Grade - Students will practice keyboarding skills using various websites.
3rd Grade - Students will discuss Cyberbullying using Nearpod.
4th Grade - Students will problem solve using the Crazy Machines program.

This Week in the Lab - September 30-October 4

5th Grade Audacity Project - Students will create an audio version of a picture book using Audacity.  Students will learn how to record, edit, and add sound effects.  Final project will be shared with a kindergarten class.

Kindergarten - Students will continue to practice mouse skills using Tux Paint.

1st Grade - Students will continue learning how to edit text in Microsoft Word.

    

This Week in the Lab - September 23-27

Kindergarten - Students will practice basic mouse skills while playing "Bees and Honey".
1st Grade - Students will learn and practice the basic functions of Microsoft Word/Google Docs.
2nd Grade - Google Earth Project - Students will go on a "tour" of Route 66 and visit and learn about landmarks along the way while learning how to use Google Earth.

This Week in the Lab - September 16-20

Kindergarten - Students will design and paint using Sphero, an app-controlled robotic ball.
1st & 2nd Grade - Students will use problem solving to complete programming puzzles on code.org.
6th Grade - Students will use MinecraftEdu to simulate early humans from their social studies curriculum.

This Week in the Lab - June 3-7, June 10-14

6th Grade Data Analysis - Students will use TrackMania to collect baseline data for lap times.  After receiving additional instruction, students will collect experimental data.  Students will analyze the data by graphing.  Class will compete for points in various categories including high speed track design.

NJSLA Testing

May 6-17 - 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will take the NJSLA Math and ELA assessments.
May 22-23 - 5th graders will take the NJSLA-Science assessment.

Technology lessons will resume once testing is complete.

6th Grade Space Flight - Students will build and fly rockets in Kerbal Space Program to learn about gravity and orbiting.  Students will then design and build a soda bottle rocket to launch and collect data on height and distance.

3rd Grade Area & Perimeter Minecraft Project - Students will design a house on a paper grid and calculate area for each room.  Students will then build the house using MinecraftEdu and perimeter.

Kindergarten - Students will continue learning about programming by working in their code.org accounts.

1st Grade - Students will build and fly a rocket into space using Kerbal Space Program.

Kindergarten - Students will practice mouse skills by building a plane using "Simple Planes".

1st Grade - Students will complete their "My School" projects.

2nd Grade - Students will use the engineering design process to build a fly a rocket in "Kerbal Space Program".

3rd Grade - Students will collect weather data, enter into Google Sheets, and graph the relationship between latitude and temperature.

1st Grade "My School" Project - Students will use Google Slides and Tux Paint to create a presentation about the different aspects of school.  Students will type and edit text, draw and insert their own pictures, as well as search for online pictures to insert.

2nd Grade Engineering Project - Students will use the engineering design process to create, test, and improve a working racetrack using TrackMania.  Tracks will be scored based on a rubric and students will earn ranks based on their track design.

Minecraft: War!
You fought in a "war" today; at least as much of a war as Minecraft can be.  Answer the following questions in one comment:

Part A: Your Own Reaction

1.) What were your emotions during the beginning?  If you were an attacker, what were you feeling leading up to the attack?  If a defender, how did you react when the attackers came?

2.) What were your thoughts during the "defend the beacons" stage?  What went well?  What went badly?

3.) How did it feel when a 3rd "army" (the monsters) came in?  Did you automatically stop fighting the other players, or did you continue your fight?  Why or why not?

4.) What were your thoughts and emotions when you looked over the ruin of the city?


Part B: Application to Social Studies

1.) You've been learning about Egypt, Kush, and Assyria.
·         In our lesson, what group would be the "Egyptians"?  Why them?
·         What group would be the Kushites?  Why?
·         What group would be the Assyrians?  Why?
