6th Grade Minecraft Day 2

Please answer the following questions:
1.) Describe what it was like in each stage of “hunter/gatherers”.  What were the challenges you faced along the way?
2.) Did each stage get easier?  If so, why?
3.) How do you think technology advances affected the hunters and gatherers that we are trying to simulate?
4.) What differences can you see from the simulation of Minecraft to the reality of early humans' (hunter/gatherers) experiences?

  1. the first stage was harder then the second. The second one was easier because you had more advantages, you had weapons and fire, to cook and to kill animals. the first one was harder because you did not have fire to cook your food so you would get food poison, then you'd die.

  2. when we were playing mincraft each stage was difficult we all faced a lot of challenges we had to face hunger trying not to drown and also the most hardest not to die it was vary hard . every stage we went though we got smarter witch made us make smarter choices and also witch helped us survive . it affected us by getting more advantages in the game that helped me and my class to survive for a wail . the difference was it was hard for us not to talk to each other but they didn't have trouble because the couldn't talk at all .

  3. When being the hunters and gathers, you would always have to be on the run killing cooking and eating.
When the stages went on with new tools everything was easier. When earily humans had tools hunting became alot easier killing animals and cooking was alot easier

  4. the challenges we faceed was we had to not starve to death and just trying to survive . each stage got esiar because we got a diamoind swords.it helped us without makeing the tools.it is diffrent because it is a video game not real life and it is in pixels.

  5. 1) they were challenged because they could not talk at all and it was hard to catch the animals and kill them for food

  6. I the the first stage was harder because you had to kill the animals to eat them but then you got raw meat and the second stage was a lot easier because you had a sword to kill the animals quicker and a fire to cook the meat so it wouldn't be raw. The stage got way easier because a sword fire and a bow to kill this and eat things quicker. I think the technology helped a lot in that situation you were able to kill animals a lot quicker so you could eat faster then normal. The differences I could see was you could kill a animal just by punching it in the game but in real life it would be a lot harder to kill a animal then just punching it

  7. In the hunters (lucy) it was very challenging to stay alive. I had trouble finding food and not being able to communicate. In the gatherers it was very easy to stay alive. We had tool and weapons. We also had the ability to communicate with each other. the second stage was easier because we could help each other and communicate. The technology advances really helped me with killing my animals and being able to cook them and not get sick. They are very similar to real life because in real life they had the same dis advantages and advantages.

  8. 1) In the first stage it was hard to survive. It was hard to survive because we didn't have tools or a fire to cook food over. Without fire you cant cook food which will lead to food poisoning. In the second stage it was a lot easier because we had tools and a fire to cook food over.
    2) Yes, each stage got easier because we had better resources to use use to stay alive.
    3) The new technology that they had helped them because they could use them to kill animals and create tools for chopping down trees and other things.
    4) In minecraft you cant really feel what they are going through in real life. In real life they used all of these things to stay alive.

  9. The first round wasn't easy because we had no tools and we had to punch the animals and it took a long time and we had to eat raw food just like Lucy did.The first stage was hard because we had to punch when we had no tools but the second round was easy because we had tools and we could kill it faster and we could cook it.It help them because they got tools that kill them much faster.I can see that the hominids with tools help them kill animals faster just like in minecraft but if you don't have tools it could take a long time like it take for Lucy to kill the animals.

  10. 1.) Some challenges i faced were trying to get food, staying with my group and i fell in a really deep hole. But over all it was really hard but fun. 2.)There were only two stages and the second was way easier because we had weapons and things to cook our meat with.3.) I think the technology affected the hunters and gatherers because they didn't have just their hands they had new swords and a bow n area.4.) The simulation i see from minecraft and the early humansis trying to live, get food, get shelter, and againtrying to live.

  11. 1. On the first stage it was really hard with no weapons or furnaces. The health drained out quickly so there was no chance of survival. On the second stage it was easier because you were able to cook food and stay healthier to survive.

    2. Yes, because the second was more advanced and safe. You get to do things you couldn't do before.

    3. They could do things much easier. It must have been a relief for the hunters.

    4. It was much harder for hunters/gatherers because they were actually doing what we were doing in the game.

  12. 1:The first stage I think was a little hard because you really didn't get to use and weapons or tools, but in the second it was a little bit easier because we got to use the weapons and tools to hunt or gather materials and supplies. Also, one of the challenge I had faced was staying alive since the first stage we didn't have any tools I had to try to survive with no one to help me I was all by my own.
2: Yes, because we got to have tools and weapons to survive.
3: I think that the technology advances affected the hunters and gathers because now the have tools that they could use to kill or hunt animals.
4: The differences that i see from Minecraft and the reality of early humans' experiences is that one is different from each other is that in minecraft everyone can stand on two feet , but the reality of early humans' Lucy was the only one who can walk on two feet.

  13. Justin. It was very hard in the stage of hunters and gatherers thry ate raw food and it was hard for them to make a fire .The challenges I faced was there was no tools no nothing it was just wooded area and jungle. And we had no furnace. So we couldn't cook food. Each stage did get easier. It got easier because when we did it the second time in day 2 we had a diamond sword a furnace and a bow. so it was easier to kill chicken and cows that beef, Wheres the beef?

  14. 1) the chalenges for hunters and gathers is that you have to
    -survive without cooked food
    -no tools were invented

2)each stage got easier because you were able to cook food, craft tools, and don't have to survive out of raw food.

    3) they were ably to make spears and bows and arrows to make hunting and gathering food much easier

    4) they dint have much tools as the present

  15. In hunter gatherers it was very difficult. Every time you were to eat food it would just make everything worse because it was raw. It was hard getting food and getting food in time before you would die. It definitely got easier after the first stage because we got a few weapons and we could cook food. The way technology advanced by helping the hunters and gatherers get more food and cook food. Both differences between mine craft and early humans. Mine craft simulates how difficult it was for early humans to survive.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1.) The first stage was hard because my hunger was going down quickly and the food was raw so the hunger bar was still low. The second stage was easier because I had better items and weapons to use so it was easier to kill the animals and cook them so my hunger bar went up.
2.) The second stage was easier because I had better tools so I can live long because the diamond sword made it easier to kill the animals and using the furnace for the meat made me less hungrier.
3.) The amount of time doing things were much faster in Minecraft so we did not have to wait too long for things to load up.
4.) It was easier to collect and cook food to stay alive but the earlier humans did not have great tools so it took them longer to get the food and try eating it.

  19. 1.The challenges I faced along the way in each stage of hunter/gatherers was trying to kill the animals to get food.Another was to keep your health up and your food bars so that you didn't die.My last challenge was when you had to eat your food raw and not being able to cook it was a major challenge because there was a possible chance of you getting poisoned.
2.Each stage got easier because at the last stage we were given tools that made a lot easier to kill animals and get food easier. We also were given a furnace to cook our food. That was a very helpful thing to have because we wouldn't have to eat our food raw so we didn't get poisoned again.
3.I think the technology advances affected the hunters and gatherers that we were trying to simulate by their health and there stable food supply but when we moved to the next stages it was more easier and I could tell that there would be a more stable food supply.
4.The differences that i can see from the simulation of Minecraft to the reality of early humans is that Minecraft is just game and its not like yourself is in that state of being dead its just in the screen.Although, the early humans didn't have a second life or "9 lives" like how a cat is.They had to literally survive and when they died that was it for them.

  20. 1.On the first stage it was hard to survive because it was hard to kill animals with our bare hands. Also it was hard to survive because we risked food poisoning as a result of not having anything to cook our food with. On the second stage we had tools to make killing animals much easier to survive. Also we had a furnace and coal to cook our food with so its less likely to get food poisoning.
    2. Yes! each stage did get easier because on the first stage we had nothing. On the second stage we had a furnace different tools and coal for a fire.
3.I think that technology advances affected the hunters and gathers by lowering the risk of injuries. I think this because like the first stage they had to hunt with their bare hands and possibly injure themselves. With the tools like in the second stage they could hunt from a far distance and more likely they will not get hurt
    4. In the first they (we)experienced life or death experiences like hunting with there bare hands and eating raw food. On the second stage they experienced more safe experiences like lesrning how to choot a bow and cook food.

  21. In Minecraft/Social Studies, we are putting ourselves in the early human's shoes. (not literally because they didn't have shoes) During my experience, I faced some difficult challenges. For example, I had to keep traveling constantly. If I stayed in the same spot, I'd die of hunger and there wouldn't be any more animals left to eat. Just like the hominids; they had to move from place to place when their food ran out. Also, I couldn't eat food anyways! There was no fire to cook the raw meat, and I "died" of food poisoning. The same thing happened to the hominids. The next stage I actually had fire and weapons to kill the animals, like "Handy Man". It was a little easier, but I still had to keep moving. making the fire was a bit of a challenge to me. You had a better chance of surviving playing the second stage. The technology advances made it easier. Like I said, they didn't have fire, and had to use their hands, or rocks to do a lot of things. When they discovered fire and invented tools, that was a HUGE change in their lives. They could get things done more easily and keep themselves healthier. In a way, Minecraft and the early humans (real) have some differences, like we have more experience than the hominids. We couldn't talk, but we knew right away that we had to find food. They didn't go to school like we did, so they wouldn't have known a day is 24 hours. Playing this game allowed me to understand that the early humans had a rough life! "Where's the Shoprite in here?"

  24. In each stage of hunters/gatherers there were challenges, in the first stage there was raw food and we had to kill everything with our hands. In the second stage we lost hunger EXTREMELY fast so it was kind of impossible to "win"... Each stage did not get easier becasue in the second stage after like 30 seconds we started loosing our hunger VERY fast, So, it was impossible to survive. Having advanced technology such as the diamond sword ad the bow and furnace made it easier to GET the food. The only difference from minecraft and real life OLD time was 1, the swords and tools just appeared in our hands and we didn't really have to work for it. 2, The hunger went faster so we could realize time... BUT it went WAY TOO fast, SO it was It was kind of IMPOSSIBLE... DAAAN DAAN DAAAAAAAAAAN.

  25. I can see the differences between Lucy and Handyman distinctly. First of all, let me reenact the to lifestyles. Lucy's life: FOOD!FOOD!ANIMAL!HUNGRY!IM SO STRESSED OUT!! And Handy Man's lifestyle: I'm hungry. FOOD! WOW,I was ready to put up a fight with that chicken but it only took ONE arrow to get food. Let me cook this so I don't get salmonella.(I don't like sushi)Hey I forgot I can talk! "HELLO FELLOW HOMINID WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME OVER AND HAVE A BARBECUE?" Which one sounds more controlled? I think the advances in technology really turned the tables when it came to hunting. Before we had nothing then 2 million years later we had a spear in one hand and a sword in the other! In reality though, things back then were DANGEROUS! For instance if you tried to hunt a cow without proper assistance you most likely would have been trampled on before you even got near the wild beast. Back then if you were that hungry you would have not been able to move due to malnutrition. Thanks to the Handy Man's "innovative designs" we don't have to live like Lucy, because Lucy wasn't living she was just not dying.

  26. Minecraft stimulates real life of early humans in many ways. Being a hunter and gatherer was tough because there was no technology in any way. It was easier being able to use tools and smelt food because it was more convinient and I got no food poisoning. Minecraft is like the hominid times because you have to make your own technology.

  27. 1. The first stage was really hard because when we actually killed an animal it was raw so our hunger wasn't satisfied. Also, it was VERY difficult to kill the animal because we only had our bare hands and NO tools.
    2. Each stage definetly got easier. We got advanced tools and could TALK! We were able to cook our food with the furnace and didn't grow hungry as fast.
    3. The technology advances helped them to hunt and stay a LOT healthier. It was faster to do EVERYTHING.
    4. In Minecraft, cooking your food only takes 10 seconds in the furnace. BUT, in real life it took them at least 30 minutes. Also, when you killed the animals, you just hit them and they're dead. It wasn't that easy in real life. They had to hunt for hours because an animal doesn't normally die in a split second.

  28. (1) It was a little hard and little easy when we did the hunters and gathers in minecraft. Some challenges were when I got hungry and it was hard to kill the animals for their meat.
    (2) Yes each stage got easier because in the first stage we didn't have any tools but in the next stage we had tools and fire.
    (3) It advanced because in the first stage it was hard to kill the animals and survive. But when we got all the tools it helped us survive.
    (4) some differences were that the area when they were alive probably wasn't right. Also we got a glimpse of the area so it was a little easier.

  29. 1. There were many challenges they faced in each stage of hunters/gatherers. In the first stage we had to kill animals with our own hands and we ate it raw because we couldn't cook it. In the second stage we had a diamond pick axe, bow and arrow, and a furnace. We killed the animals with the diamond pick axe or a bow and arrow and cooked them in the furnace. The second stage was much easier.
    2. Yes! Each stage did get easier. In the first stage you couldn't communicate and you lost hunger super fast. In the second stage you could communicate and you didn't lose hunger so easily. The second stage was easier.
    3. Technology changes every day which lets us have more options to explore and have more advantages.
    4. In Minecraft you can't feel what hunters/gatherers really feel like in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1) Each stage of the hunters/gatherers was tiring for me because I had to hunt and keep moving to stay alive. One of the problems were that I kept getting food poisoned from the raw meat I ate and that when I tried to kill an animal it would always run away. Then someone else would kill it.

    2) Each stage did get earlier because the tools we got would be more advances and after Lucy and her relatives we could communicate I could ask for help. We could also get weapons and coal to cook our food.

    3) The technology advances changed how the hominids lived. One thing is that they could survive much easier and they could live much longer every time they made something new.

    4) The differences are that in life this is someones life were talking about so then the hominids were probably more frighten that they could past but in minecraft you could just respond and dont have to feel the pain of making tools.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The challenges that I faced along the way was that we had no materials to use to hunt. Each stage got easier because of how we had to hunt and gather for food. The differences that I see from the simulation of minecraft to the reality of early humans is that when the early humans had to hunt it was hard for them, but in minecraft it was easier for us to hunt for food.

  32. 1)It was hard for me to gather food as a hunter because I didn't know my way and my hunger was growing also my health was dropping.2)I do think each stage got easier because the first stage you had to find a animal than kill it with your bare hands and eat it raw the second stage you got weapons and you could cook your food.3)I think technology advantages affected gathering because with-out using weapons its harder with-out weapons you have to kill animals with your bare hands and with weapons you shoot the animal and it dies also with technology advantages help cook your food because if it isn't cooked you can get food poising.4)The difference between Minecraft and early humans is that Minecraft is just a game on a screen and you got 9 lives and in early humans its a real life and you got 1 life and they really had to survive.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It was hard and is was easy for me because I have played minecraft on the pc a lot and the xbox360. Also it got easy when we went on minecraft the second time around.

    ReplyDelete
  34. it was a real challenge because you had too race the time it take for you to get really hungry and it was hard,we had too(in the 1st stage)punch animals so we can eat and when we did we, didn't have a furnace so we couldn't cook the chicken or beef that we caught so we had to eat it raw and most of the time when ate it we got food poisoning which made it even harder to survive because we got hungry even faster. it was a lot better in the 2nd stage because we were able to wield a diamond sword and a bow and many arrows plus a furnace to cook food so we wouldn't get food poisoning.

Now that we had weapons and a furnace it was easier to survive because we can kill animals much quicker and that made surviving much easier for me and my class.

the new tech had a great improvement be cause instead of having to punch them many times we could use the sword and kill animals in one or two hits i think that this simulated what the handy man could do and simulate what they did.

in both mincraft and a long time ago the both had to strive to survive under dangerous conditions.

  35. Minecraft and what we have learned in Social Studies are in common when they had to hunt and gather food to survive. They are in common because the things we had learned in Social Studies they had to hunt by them selves and make sure that they had food to survive. Also in minecraft we had to use our hands to kill animals to survive and that's a challenge we had to face.In Social Studies they had to learn how to make them and how to make a fire to cook them and that's a challenge they faced. The stage got easier because they gave us a furnace and tools so it could be easier to kill the animals. They gave us a furnace so we could cook the food from the animals so it's no longer poisonous.I think the technology advances affected the hunter and gathers because when you was trying to kill the animals you didn't have to kill it ounce you had to kill it more than ounce. In minecraft we control the character so if we die it's not like we are dying in real life. Also in minecraft we have multiple lives, but in real life if we die that's it for us.This is how minecraft and what we have learned in Social Studies have similarities and differences.

  36. 1.)In the first stage it was very challenging. It was very challenging because it was hard to catch food. They had no tools to hunt. So, then the hominids had to catch food with their beard hands, which took long time. Also they did not know how to make fire to cook. Then after they would get poisoned and die.
2.) They higher the stage the smarter they were. So everything was much easier now, they knew how to make tools, so it was easier to hunt and catch animals. Plus they knew how to make fire and cook so they would not get poisoned.
3.)The new technologies advances affected the hunters and gatherers. It affected the hungers and gatherers. It affected the hunters and gatherers because it was very easy for them to live longer. They got many news tools and weapons to have a better live style. They cook with fire and catch animals easy, so there was not much struggle.
4.)In mine craft it was really easy kill animals. In real life with the early humans it is not that easy as it seems. With the early humans they got hurt when trying to kill an animals. Plus in m9inecraft with a couple hand hits the animals were dead and they could eat the food. With early humans it was way more than that. They had to really punch, kick, etc. After killing the animal they would really have to ripe it open and eat they meat inside.

  37. 1) Each stage was difficult. The first stage was the worst because you didn't have any tools or anything to cook your food with. A challenge I faced was eating enough and gathering enough food to survive. In the game Minecraft, if you ate cooked food it would give you a lot of food bars, but uncooked food would only give you 2. The second stage was a little easier because you had a diamond sword, a bow and 64 arrows, coal and a furnace. The tools helped a lot, it would kill the animals faster. The furnace and coal helped boost up your food bars more. Another challenge i faced was losing energy, because if you walk or jump a lot your food bars go down faster.

    2) Each stage got easier as you went because upgrading to tools and fire is a big deal for hunters and gatherers. The tools we got were way more advanced than hand punching something.

    3) The technology advances changed how the ancient hominids lived in life. they could live their live way more easier. Thay could live longer with the technology advances around. the could create new and better things now.

    4) In real life, the hominids would die if something bad happened and never see the daylight again. In Minecraft you can respawn and don't have to worry. The hominids had to make their tools from scratch and possibly get injured, but in Minecraft we were given our tools and furnace with coal. We never get injured from making tools.

  40. 1. What it was like as a hunter and gatherer was that hunting you kill and gatherers you gather the stuff or animal\s you killed. 2. The first stage was hard because they never gave you enough food bar to live and you kept dying. The second stage was easy and fun and harder to dye. 3. The technology advances affected the hunters and gatherers because they were trying to do stuff and hunt and gather. 4. The difference you can see in the simulation was in the simulation you could not move you were frozen in a clump of people.

  41. 1.As a hunter\gatherer you'd have to kill you animals, but the animals were raw! you had to gather your food.2.The first stage, was super hard!you had to kill animals to eat. But you would run low on food really fast and its was really hard! you'd die really easy.3.with the advances technology you had a stable food supply and you could even cheat to get more new stuff and tools.4. In real life it wasn't as easy as in minecraft because you'd build houses more easy and gathered things, but in real life it was hard to even find trees and food that easy.because in minecraft everything was surounded by you!

  42. I only got to do the one with finding food ans using tools. In the hunter/gatherer experience,it was sort of like real world. They used the same things as earlier humans like tools and finding food and furnices. From my background knowledge I can infer that in the plain one it would be hard because you are not able to communicate with anyone. It was hard trying to kill the animals and get the food. Finding furnaces was actually a little hard they weren't all over the place. In the plain one no one could talk to anyone or get any help which is always very hard. It got a lot easier for me because in part 2 we had more supplies than part one that could help us survive and get the food we need to live. Sometimes if you would plan to go other ways but you go the opposite way it hard to remember which keys you have to press to go which way. In reality Early humans were able to know where they were going at all times. Also some of the animals would run away if you are trying to get food in minecraft. In the acting out experience it was a little different in a lot of ways. For example, food hunting. In reality the early humans would already know how to use the tools to kill the animal then eat it. Then what was really confusing to me was how you work the furnaces. I didnt know what goes where but thats just like in reality. The early humans also had to learn how to deal with those things. Minecraft was a great example to model out what we have learned in social studies.

  43. When playing Minecraft, as you know played two stages. While one stage, we had very limited supplies, and we had to eat raw food which gave our character food poisoning. This was a very hard way to try to survive. On that stage, we re-enacted what Lucy and her hominid might have felt. When we reached the next stage, we played as the handyman. This is a more advance hominid. Just like their name suggests, they were a lot more bright and intelligent. We now had swords, a fire/furnace, a bow and arrow, and cole. Things are a lot easier. Firstly, it's ALOT easier to kill and eat animals when you have weapons. And we don't have to eat it raw because the furnace. As the handyman, things are a lot more livable. In conclusion, I think this relates to what we learned in social studies, and his helping me understand it more.

  46. There are many challenges I faced along the way. For instance, finding food and, gathering food that I can not get sick from it being raw, but it did get easier along the way. Each stage we got more tools and things to help us stay alive. Also since the technology did get more advances,it did affected me will I hunting because it made junting alot easier to get more food to not starve to death. To add to that it made gathering food more successfu and worth it, but what we hae it mine craft is different from the real life. First, in the mine craft verson we just got tools to use but in real life they had to make their own tools for hunting and gathering. Also in the mine craft verson we could ask were each other are but in real life they had to find each other because they had no way to communcate with each other

  48. When I was playing minecraft today I thought that it was way easier to hunt and gather the different foods from all the other animals when we could use the tools, like the diamond sword and the bow and arrow. That made it easier as we went on. There were also some difficulties though, like when we had to put the furnice down and make a fire so we could eat the animals. Otherwise we could have died because the food would've been raw. I think that the game mincraft was different from the early humans beacuse in minecraft all of the weapons just appeared for you. The early humans had to go through the trouble of finding things to make the tools with. That probably wasn't the easiest job ever! In the game if you needed to, you would be able to communicate with the other people you were around so you could get help if it was needed. Either way I still don't think I would be able to survive!
